If you have been unfortunate to be the victim of a criminal assault, rape or hijacking whilst abroad then it may be possible to obtain compensation. Claims can be made against either the assailant, the relevant government fund in the country where the accident occurred or the organisation that failed to take the appropriate steps to ensure your safety, such as, the Tour Operator who sold you the holiday.
In any circumstance, it is important that you report the incident to the local police as soon as possible as this may be a requirement to bring a claim in some countries.
Jean and his wife booked a hotel break in Italy for their 1 year anniversary. Whilst at the hotel, Jean was assaulted by one of the bar staff in the hotel’s restaurant due to no fault of his own. Jean suffered a broken nose and 2 scars to his forehead. When Jean returned to the UK he contacted Journey Owl and as Jean purchased a package holiday, it was possible for him to pursue a claim directly against his Tour Operator.
